Melissa melodie marshall

Founder/Lead Tutor

I founded The Atelium with a simple belief: academic excellence is not accidental, it is crafted.

With a degree from the University of Nottingham in Criminology, combined with Sociology and Social Policy, I specialise in helping students transform uncertainty into structured academic success. My teaching approach combines strong subject expertise with strategic exam methodology, helping students develop both high performance and lasting academic confidence.

Over the past two years of tutoring, I have supported students across KS2, GCSE, and A Level, including international students from Malaysia and Hong Kong, as well as learners for whom English is not their first language. My focus is always on breaking down complex ideas clearly, strengthening analytical thinking, and building disciplined study habits that lead to measurable progress.

Alongside tutoring, I have run a successful digital learning storefront for over five years, where I create and sell structured revision materials and academic resources used by students internationally.

I am currently continuing my academic journey through the Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL), further strengthening the analytical and critical thinking skills that underpin my teaching.

Education should feel focused, purposeful, and empowering, not overwhelming.

What to Expect From My Lessons

My sessions follow a structured, strategy-led approach designed to build strong academic skills, confidence, and measurable progress.

Structured Lesson Format

Each lesson follows a consistent structure to ensure clarity and focus:

Clear learning objectives so students understand the purpose of the session
Starter activity to recap previous learning and activate key knowledge
Focused teaching content tailored to the student’s specific goals or areas of difficulty
Practice activities to apply new knowledge immediately
Mini quiz or knowledge check to consolidate understanding when written work is not completed in the lesson

Written Work & Feedback

When lessons involve written work, students receive detailed guidance and feedback:

Live feedback during the lesson while students develop their response
In-depth written feedback afterwards, with answers reviewed against exam mark schemes
• Clear guidance on how to improve structure, analysis, and exam technique

Many lessons include live writing practice, where students can type directly onto the shared board while viewing lesson materials. This interactive format allows me to guide their thinking, structure, and phrasing in real time.

Homework & Independent Practice

To reinforce learning between sessions:

Homework is set approximately every two weeks, tailored to the lesson content
• Homework tasks are designed as targeted follow-up practice to strengthen understanding
• Students receive detailed feedback on all written work from our lesson together to fully consolidate learning

Where additional support is needed, I may also provide tailored revision materials and resources which I expect students to actively use.

Lesson Reports

After sessions, students and parents receive a lesson report summarising progress, including:

• Topics covered in the session
• Key strengths demonstrated
Targets for improvement
• What we will focus on in the next lesson

This ensures that progress remains transparent, measurable, and focused on long-term improvement.
